Our Hospital Reports

MN HealthScores shares information about the quality of care available from Minnesota hospitals. You can use the reports in this section to find hospitals and compare the quality of their care.

Our hospital reports:

  • Can help you make decisions about where you get your health care
  • Encourage hospitals to improve the quality of care they provide

Our hospital reports list information about different health conditions. Each condition has a quality measure that shows how often hospitals provided care that research shows gets the best results for patients with that health condition. Our measures will also tell you how many patients at a particular hospital received the recommended care for their health condition. We regularly review and update the reports to stay current.

We offer hospital reports in 4 categories:

  • Hospitals List - View a list of all hospitals that reported information, and read their individual profile that includes reports on Recommended Care and Care Results.
  • Recommended Care - See how often hospitals provided the care that research shows gets the best results for patients with certain conditions. The measure reports include heart attack care, heart failure care, pneumonia care, and surgical care. Recommended Care measures are also called “process of care” or “timely and effective care” measures.
  • Patients’ Experiences - Learn what other patients had to say about their hospital stays. This report shows how patients rated their hospital experience and if they recommend the hospital.
  • Care Results - Review how many surgeries and procedures a hospital performed. You can also see with some procedures if the number of patients who died from the procedure was higher, lower, or about what could be expected. Care Results measures are also called “outcomes of care” measures.

Remember, in an emergency, you should go to the nearest hospital. When you can plan ahead, talk with your health care provider about the information you find here to decide which hospital will best meet your health care needs.

For more information about national efforts to improve the quality of hospital care, we recommend you visit Hospital Compare. This website has information about the quality of care at more than 4,000 Medicare-certified hospitals across the country. You can use Hospital Compare to find hospitals and compare the quality of their care. Hospital Compare was created by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), in collaboration with organizations representing consumers, hospitals, doctors, employers, accrediting organizations, and other federal agencies.
