Diabetes - Bad Cholesterol (LDL-C)

One of the five goals for achieving the best diabetes care is lowering LDL or “bad” cholesterol.

People who have diabetes and high cholesterol often have more heart attacks and strokes. Low-density lipoprotein (LDL), also known as "bad" cholesterol, narrows or blocks your blood vessels. These blocked blood vessels can lead to a heart attack or stroke. Keeping your cholesterol under control can help prevent diabetes related problems.

High quality care for diabetes includes tests to see if your cholesterol is less than 100 mg/dl. This goal is part of the D5, five treatment goals created to make it easier for patients with diabetes and their health care team to focus on treatments that have the greatest health impact.

Talk with your doctor about how you're doing on your D5. Learn more at www.theD5.org.
